Fifteen Songs for the Abyss

תמונה למעלה.jpg

This was an exhibition of the Tohu Collective that I conceived and curated. It was presented at the "Outline Festival" in 2021.
The exhibition was inspired by a legend from Jewish folklore, according to which the groundwater of the abyss went so far underground that the world was in danger of drying up. In order to draw the water back to the surface of the earth, King David played fifteen songs to the abyss. Those songs became part of the Book of Psalms.

The exhibition was born out of the question, What does it mean to sing to the abyss --- which represents the chaotic, Dionysian power and has the potential to destroy but also contains the power of life?
In the legend, the music restores balance to this tension and lures the abyss to the surface without threatening the world's order.

Each artist chose a subject, object or experience that communicated the theme of raising the abyss. For the artists, their works were themselves songs attempting to raise the abyss.

Each work consisted of fifteen separate illustrations that together created a whole. The works were hung on wires, and each one created a kind of curtain.

In addition to the treasures, I also created one of the works presented in the exhibition. The work I did describes one of my childhood memories, when at the age of five I fell into a well.
